This incredible rock formation can be found on the eastern shore of the Vatnsnes Peninsula, in the northeast of Iceland. It stands 50 feet out of the water and the word Hvítserkur, which means “white shirt” in Icelandic, comes from the color of the sea-bird excrement deposited on the rock. The rock formation was once a plug for a volcano but over time the pounding water of the Atlantic gave way to this unique formation. In order to preserve the rock they have added concrete to the bottom to ensure it will stay in its place.
